At Westex, we are extremely proud to be the first company in North America to introduce Recycled Down bedding. It was our mission from day one to minimize our ecological footprint and produce sustainable bedding, home décor, and home laundry solutions.
What is Recycled Down Bedding?
Recycled Down bedding is made from 100% Recycled Down. The process is safe and sustainable, while also creating high-quality, comfortable, and well-insulated comforters/duvets.
How Do We Recycle Down?
While Recycled Down comforters and duvets are quite new to North America, European manufacturers have been reusing Down and feathers for quite some time.
At Westex, we work with European craftsmen to collect discarded Down and feather products. These talented individuals carefully harvest the discarded Down, sorting out any unusable bits and bobs. The Recycled Down is then washed in a 100℃ cycle to ensure the products are hypoallergenic and comply with the strictest international standards of sterilization and cleanliness.
After the Down has been properly cleaned and sterilized, it is then reused to fill our beloved comforters and duvets.
What are the Benefits of Recycled Down Bedding?
Above all else, Recycled Down comforters and duvets are one of the most sustainable bedding options on the market. By reusing discarded Down, we are reducing the amount of garbage that ends up in our already overflowing landfill sites.
Are There Other Sustainable Bedding Options?
Yes. ‘Down-Alternative duvets’ refers to a duvet filled with anything other than Down or feathers. While some alternative duvets may be filled with materials such as polyester, other filling options such as bamboo have the potential to be very environmentally friendly.
But even in this case, not all bamboo-filled duvets are made equal. The greenest option is 100% bamboo lyocell. This bamboo is naturally handled without harmful chemicals. It is also produced in a 98% recycled closed-loop water system.
What are the Benefits of Working with a Recycled Down Bedding Manufacturer?
Staying Ahead of the Curve
First, the world is going green. Governments are enacting sustainability laws of all stripes at record speed. By partnering with a Recycled Down bedding manufacturer like Westex, you may qualify for green incentive programs.
Eco-Conscious Marketing
By reselling our Recycled Down duvet or comforter, you’ll be able to truthfully tell your customers about your eco-conscious products. Increasingly, companies with clear green initiatives enjoy more favourable attention from consumers and the media.
A 2015 survey by Nielsen of 30,000 consumers found 66 percent were willing to pay more for sustainably sourced products—that number jumped to 73 percent among millennials.
Employee Morale
Employees have been proven to have a more favourable attitude towards employers fostering green partnerships. This can have a surprisingly positive effect on employee retention and productivity.
It’s the Right Thing to Do
As landfills overflow, pollution increases, and demand for resources reaches a breaking point, companies must act. It is our shared responsibility to protect our planet and minimize our ecological footprint. Partnering with a Recycled Down bedding manufacturer is one small step in the right direction.
